Click here to downloand the application.

Building Kindness is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity - Espanola Valley Los Alamos (HFH EVLA) and Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church (BELC) to provide affordable home repairs to qualified homeowners in Espanola Valley and Los Alamos. The partnership is extended to individuals and families willing to partner with the program in order to improve their housing conditions by performing affordable, needed home repairs. The home repairs are conducted by volunteers under the direction of a "straw boss" almost entirely on Saturdays.

Quick Facts

David Canfield, BK Coordinator*Building Kindness offers a "hands up" not a "hand out"

*Applicants must own the home they are seeking to have repairs done on.

*Applicants are low income residents for their respective areas

*Applicants will show the ability to repay Building Kindness for the cost of the materials used only. With a 0% interest

*Building Kindness will focus on needed repairs, repairs that impact safety and needs of home owners - partners.

Since the program started in August 2010, ten partners have received needed home repairs conducted by a total of 35 volunteers over seven Saturdays. The repairs have ranged from installation of ramps to provide handicap-access to a home repair on a roof. A fairly new technology of a low threshold access-step for handicap access to a tub/shower is not only inexpensive, but also can be completed by a team of three volunteers on a Saturday.

Those interested in applying for home repairs should visit the HFH EVLA office at 726 Riverside Drive, Espanola, NM or call the office at (505) 747-2690 and ask for David Canfield, the Building Kindness Coordinator.
