Who We Are

Habitat for Humanity of Española Valley & Los Alamos, Inc., is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

How It’s Possible

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner (partner) families. Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor(sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable mortgages at no interest. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses! For more information about homeownership or home repairs, refer to: What We Do.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Habitat! Our ReStore, Furniture Store, and Thrift Shop operations, committee activities, and construction would not be possible without those of you who donate so generously of your time, finances and items. Help is needed right here in your community. Consider volunteering. Visit our Volunteer page for more information.

Our Supporters

At Habitat for Humanity EVLA, we are very grateful for all the volunteers and individuals who drop off donations and those that make financial contributions. People are the reason we thrive and succeed. Yes we build homes, but people are our heart and soul.

We would also like to recognize the businesses that contribute financially or with in kind donations of services. Thank you.
